How it works
Four steps, inside Word.
CiteMatch reads the brief open in Word, finds each cited source, and a fixed rule decides whether the quoted words match. Here is the whole path, including what happens when a source cannot be checked.
- 01Read locallyCiteMatch identifies quotations and citations in the Word document you already have open. The document text is read on your computer and stays there.
- 02Retrieve narrowlyFor each citation, CiteMatch sends only the citation details needed to find the public source. Surrounding prose is never sent.
- 03Compare word for wordThe retrieved source text is compared against the quoted words on your device. A fixed rule decides the result. No generative model decides whether a quote is verified.
- 04Show the evidenceEach result records the source path, the matched passage, and any unresolved limits, in a receipt you can reopen and review after the fact.
The four results
Every check lands in exactly one of four fixed states. Missing evidence never becomes a positive result.
- verified
- The retrieved source text matches the quoted words CiteMatch checked.
- mismatch
- The retrieved source uses different words. Review the quote and the source.
- not_found
- The supported lookup path did not find the cited source.
- unverifiable
- CiteMatch could not retrieve enough source text to perform the check.
When a quote could belong to more than one citation
If a quotation may belong to more than one citation in the document, CiteMatch shows the ambiguity and asks you to choose before it runs the word-for-word comparison. An optional companion app running on your own computer can suggest which citation an ambiguous quote belongs to, or abstain. It never decides whether the quoted words match, and if it is unavailable, review continues without it and nothing is invented.
