Policies

1. Agreement and account

These terms govern your use of CiteMatch, a product of Cited Authorities LLC. You must provide accurate account information, keep your sign-in details secure, and be legally able to enter this agreement. You are responsible for use through your account.

2. License

While your trial or paid subscription is active, Cited Authorities LLC gives you a limited, personal, nonexclusive, nontransferable, revocable license to use CiteMatch for your own professional work on no more than two active Word computers. The software and local model package are licensed, not sold. Except where mandatory law permits, you may not share an account or credentials, evade device controls, extract or redistribute the model, remove ownership notices, resell the product, use it to train a competing model, or copy, modify, decompile, or reverse engineer it.

3. Acceptable use

Do not use CiteMatch to break the law, violate another person's rights, disrupt the service, bypass access controls, test the service without authorization, or send harmful code. Do not use the product in a way that overloads or abuses public source services.

4. Subscription, renewal, and cancellation

A card is required to start the 7-day trial. Unless you cancel before it ends, the plan you selected begins and renews automatically each month or year at the price shown at checkout, plus applicable taxes. For eligible purchases, Stripe provides Managed Payments and acts as merchant of record for checkout, payment, tax collection, disputes, refunds, and transaction support. Checkout may be presented through Link. Additional provider terms presented at checkout also apply to that transaction. You can manage or cancel through Account & billing or Link, as indicated at checkout. Cancellation stops the next renewal and access continues through the paid period. A completed full refund revokes access to that refunded term. Our refund policy explains when we refund a charge.

5. What CiteMatch does

CiteMatch is a checking tool, not a lawyer and not legal advice. It compares citation details and quoted text with source material it can retrieve. It does not guarantee that an authority is good law, complete, current, controlling, or suitable for your argument. Source coverage and availability have limits. You remain responsible for reviewing sources, exercising professional judgment, and every filing decision.

6. Ownership and feedback

You keep ownership of your documents. Cited Authorities LLC and its licensors own CiteMatch and its software, design, and documentation. If you send product feedback, you permit us to use it without payment or attribution, but you do not transfer ownership of materials or document content.

7. Service changes and termination

We may improve, change, suspend, or discontinue parts of CiteMatch. We may suspend or end access for a material violation of these terms, unlawful use, nonpayment, or a security risk. If we discontinue the paid service, we will provide reasonable notice and any refund required by law.

8. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, CiteMatch is provided as available, without warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, noninfringement, or uninterrupted and error-free operation. Some jurisdictions do not allow some warranty exclusions, so these exclusions may not fully apply to you.

9. Liability limit

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Cited Authorities LLC will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or missed deadlines. Its total liability arising from CiteMatch will not exceed the greater of $100 or the amount you paid for CiteMatch in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. This limit does not apply where applicable law forbids it.

10. Governing law

Maryland law governs these terms, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute must be brought in a state or federal court with jurisdiction in Maryland, unless applicable law requires another forum.

11. Changes and contact

We may update these terms and will post the new effective date here. If a material change affects an active subscription, we will provide reasonable notice. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated terms.

What stays local

CiteMatch reads quotations, citations, surrounding prose, and other document text on your device. Document text is not uploaded to CiteMatch for checking, support, analytics, model inference, or training.

Do not send documents or document excerpts to support. Remove names, matter details, quotes, and citations from screenshots before sending them.

What source retrieval sends

To retrieve public source text, CiteMatch may send the citation details already printed in a citation, such as a reporter volume, reporter, page, court, year, title, section, or regulation number. If you search for a public document, your search terms and selected document reference also go to CiteMatch and the source provider. Your brief, quotations, and surrounding prose are not sent with these requests.

Provider keys and CourtListener sign-in tokens pass through CiteMatch to the chosen provider but are not stored or logged on CiteMatch servers. Saved connections stay in the native app’s secure device storage. Providers apply their own privacy practices. CiteMatch may keep a reusable copy of public source text. That copy is not tied to the document or requesting user.

Saved reviews

Native apps save a local copy of your open brief and review choices so you can continue later. Saved reviews are not synced between devices or uploaded to CiteMatch.

You can delete saved reviews in the app. Deleting a saved review does not delete your original document or copies you exported to Files, Finder, or another app.

Hosted information

• release-notes email address and Mac or Windows preference;
• account identity and authentication records;
• subscription, charge, cancellation, refund, and policy-assent records;
• installation codes, security-key checksums, platform labels, and access status;
• support messages that you choose to send;
• security events and privacy-safe operational error codes;
• aggregate funnel events such as signup, checkout, activation, review completion, cancellation, and refund.

Operational logs must not contain document text, quotes, citation content, model responses, support-message bodies, training identifiers, or local filesystem paths.

Payments and refunds

Stripe Managed Payments processes eligible checkout transactions as merchant of record. Stripe processes payment credentials, taxes, disputes, transaction support, and refunds under its own terms. CiteMatch retains correlations and states needed to provide access, display refund status, reconcile events, and prevent duplicate refunds.

Service providers

CiteMatch uses or plans to use these provider categories:

• Stripe: merchant-of-record checkout, payment, tax, disputes, transaction support, and refunds.
• Vercel: website and service hosting.
• Managed PostgreSQL: account, entitlement, device, assent, and refund records.
• Transactional email: sign-in and service messages.
• Cloudflare: private encrypted model-package delivery when that feature is enabled.
• Human support tooling: support conversations, without document content or payment credentials.

Public-facing vendor names will be updated if the production provider changes.

Retention

Fraud prevention, disputes, legal holds, or mandatory law may require a limited record to be kept longer.

Access, export, and deletion

Signed-in users can request an export of account and subscription information or request account deletion. Public source copies are not included because they are not tied to an account. Billing, assent, refund, fraud-prevention, and legal-hold records may be retained as required.

Automatic full refund

A voluntary request is eligible for automatic processing when:

• the charge settled no more than 14 days before the request;
• the charge has not already been refunded in whole or in part;
• there is no open payment dispute;
• the customer has not used the voluntary refund policy in the prior 12 months; and
• the signed-in account is the one that made the card charge.

CiteMatch requests the full charge amount. Access ends only after the payment processor confirms the full refund.

Human review

Partial refunds, prior refunds, disputes, ambiguous ownership, billing errors, documented service failures, statutory-rights claims, and other exceptional requests go to a person. A voluntary-policy denial does not determine or limit a right provided by applicable law.

Cancellation is separate

Canceling stops the next renewal. You keep access through the time you paid for. It does not automatically request a refund for an earlier charge.

Timing and status

Account shows whether a request is under human review, submitted to the payment processor, completed, or needs attention. The payment processor and the customer's financial institution control when the credit appears after submission.
